NYU freshman sues roommate for allegedly stealing and selling $50K worth of luxury goods

A New York University freshman, Aurora Agapov, has filed a lawsuit against her former roommate, Kaitlyn Fung, accusing her of stealing and selling nearly $50,000 worth of her jewelry and designer clothing.

Agapov claims that Fung "concocted a scheme" to sell her possessions on the online marketplace, The RealReal, during the 2023-24 school year when they roomed together. She noticed items were missing on May 1, and found a receipt in a handbag from The RealReal, addressed to Fung, listing her stolen items.

"My heart dropped,” Agapov told the New York Post.

The complaint alleges that Fung opened a The RealReal account in early 2024 and consigned Agapov's items until the end of April. When confronted, Fung admitted to stealing and selling the items, which included a Solange Azagury 18K Ruby Ring ($23,765), a Celine Nanno Tote ($3,300), and a Chanel purse ($4,000).

Some items were already sold for "substantially less than their true market value," and some were returned to Fung, including pieces from Gucci, Celine, and Christian Louboutin.

The following day, Agapov reported Fung, leading to her arrest by the New York City Police. Despite this, as of May 31, none of the unsold items have been returned to Agapov, who is now demanding their return and at least $51,000 in damages.
