Premature baby abandoned in Texas

A premature baby girl was found abandoned on a bridge in Katy, Texas, on Saturday morning. A couple walking with their child and dogs discovered the newborn, who was naked and wrapped only in a towel. The baby still had her placenta attached and was immediately taken to hospital, where she is listed as stable.

"Right now, we have an unknown male who dropped the child off at the location..." - Sgt. Juan Garcia, Harris County Sheriff’s Office

Authorities are searching for the man, described as a young Hispanic or white male with a slim build, fair complexion, and black hair. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and gray pants, and was carrying the infant on the Plantation Lakes walking trail. The person who left the child could face abandonment and endangerment charges.

Sgt. Garcia called the child's discovery "a blessing," as temperatures soon became dangerously hot. He urged Texans who can't care for their children to utilize the Baby Moses Law, which allows babies to be safely dropped off at hospitals, fire stations, and other designated safe spaces.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the incident is asked to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office at (713) 830-3250 or Crime Stoppers of Houston at (713) 222-8477.
