Juneteenth 2024: What's Open, What's Closed

Major retailers, grocery stores, and restaurants will be open on Juneteenth this year. Banks, post offices, and the stock market will be closed. Here's the full list:

Juneteenth Background:

Juneteenth, or "America's Second Independence Day," has been a federally recognized holiday since 2021. It commemorates the day when Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas, in 1865, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, to proclaim that over 250,000 enslaved Black people in the state were free.
