Mysterious Monolith Discovered Near Las Vegas, Reminds Hikers to Stay Safe

A "mysterious monolith" has popped up near Las Vegas, the LVMPD shared on Facebook, similar to those that have intrigued people worldwide since 2020.

The long, reflective slab of metal was discovered by Las Vegas Metro Search and Rescue near Gass Peak, about an hour north of the city. The LVMPD used the discovery to caution the public about outdoor safety.

A Global Phenomenon

This is the second time a monolith has appeared in the Las Vegas area. The first was spotted in Fremont Street in December 2020.

Since 2020, monoliths with different finishes have been found in various cities worldwide, with groups and individuals claiming responsibility for their placement:

• Utah: The first monolith was discovered in Utah's Red Rock Country in November 2020. It disappeared by November 27. The Most Famous Artist, an artist collective in New Mexico, suggested possible involvement.
• California: Multiple monoliths appeared in California in 2020. One was discovered on a hiking trail in Atascadero, set up by Travis Kenney, Randall Kenney, Wade McKenzie, and Jared Riddle. Another, linked to The Most Famous Artist, appeared near Joshua Tree National Park.
• United Kingdom: A monolith resembling the Utah structure appeared on the Isle of Wight's Compton Beach in December 2020. A different monolith, etched with "Not Banksy" and a rat picture in Banksy's style, was found at Glastonbury Tor. In March 2023, a 10-foot monolith was discovered near Hay-on-Wye by a hiker.

The appearance of these monoliths continues to captivate people worldwide, with their origins remaining a mystery, sparking curiosity and imaginative speculation.
