Republican Lawmaker Apologizes for Water Stunt Caught on Camera

A Republican legislator apologizes to her Democratic colleague after being caught on a hidden camera pouring water into his bag.

Vermont House of Representatives Rep. Mary Ann Morrissey (R-Bennington) issued an apology to Rep. Jim Carroll (D-Bennington) during a recorded House veto session on Monday. "I am truly ashamed for my actions,” Morrissey said. "It was conduct most unbecoming...not reflective of my 28 years of service and civility."

The apology comes after Seven Days obtained videos through a public records request, showing Morrissey pouring water into Carroll's bag on March 23 and 26. Carroll, who set up the spy cam, said he endured "torment" for five months. He acknowledged the path toward reconciliation with Morrissey may be "awkward."

Full statement from Carroll: Seven Days.
