Indiana Couple Charged for Leaving Children in Hot Car
An Indiana couple was arrested on child neglect charges after allegedly leaving their two children in a hot car while they went shopping. The children were in distress, and the temperature inside the vehicle reached 125 degrees. This is a stark reminder of the dangers of leaving children or pets in hot cars, as temperatures can quickly become deadly.
The Incident:
- Time/Location: 7:08 p.m., outside a Walmart northeast of Indianapolis.
- Temperatures: It was 93 degrees outside, and the car reached 125 degrees inside.
- Children's Condition: One child was "sweating profusely," while the other seemed dazed and was not sweating.
Parents Arrested:
Mirianne Pierre and Watson Joseph were arrested and booked into Marion County Jail on two counts each of neglect of a dependent. Their children were taken into the care of the Department of Children's Services.
The Dangers of Hot Cars:
- According to kidsandcars.org, over 1,085 children have died in hot cars since 1990 in the US, including two so far this year.
- The Indianapolis Police Department and Indiana State Police remind people to never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, as temperatures can quickly become fatal.
