Suspect Arrested in 2001 Cold Case Murder of Maryland Woman

The ex-boyfriend of a Virginia woman is in custody for the 2001 murder of her mother, Leslie Jennings Preer, in Chevy Chase, MD. Eugene Teodor Gligor, 44, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

“It’s been a hell of a day! He was my ex-boyfriend!” — Lauren Preer, Leslie Preer's daughter

Montgomery County Department of Police say DNA evidence from the crime scene was used to identify and arrest Gligor. He grew up in the same neighborhood as the Preers and their families were acquainted, according to Fox 5.

Leslie Preer was found murdered in her home after she did not show up for work on May 2, 2001. Her body was discovered in an upstairs bedroom with "apparent trauma". The case went cold until September 2022 when blood evidence was submitted for forensic genetic genealogical DNA analysis, leading to the identification of Gligor as a suspect. He is currently being extradited to Maryland.
