Austin Area Juneteenth Celebration Marred by Shooting

AUSTIN, TEXAS – Juneteenth celebrations cut short after mass shooting leaves two dead, 14 injured in Round Rock. Community organizations host "healing event" to support survivors, those impacted by trauma.

"You're gonna feel anger. You're gonna feel guilt, and with guilt comes shame...and part of this processing of healing from trauma is telling yourself that you did what you could." - Stephanie Richardson, Life Anew Counselor

The event offered explanations of trauma and emotional reactions to violence. Survivors expressed guilt for being unable to help, while those knowing them felt a mix of relief and anger. Many attendees spoke of delayed reactions, only processing the magnitude of the event days later, and counselors assured them this was normal.
