Robert Morris: From Pastor to Predator

A Dark Confession

Robert Morris, former senior pastor of Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas, has admitted to sexual behavior with a child in the 1980s. Morris's confession has shocked his congregation and the wider community, leading to his resignation.

The Accuser Speaks

Cindy Clemshire has come forward, alleging that Morris abused her starting when she was just 12 years old. Now 54, Clemshire shared her traumatic experience in " The Wartburg Watch", a blog exposing the dark underbelly of Christian churches. The abuse, she claims, continued for over four years.

Church Response

In a statement, the Gateway Church Board of Elders expressed their regret, stating:

"The elders’ prior understanding was that Morris’s extramarital relationship, which he had discussed many times throughout his ministry, was with ‘a young lady.’ Even though it occurred before Gateway, as leaders, we regret not knowing it involved the abuse of a child."

Justice Denied?

Clemshire responded to Morris' resignation, saying:

"I'm grateful he's no longer a pastor, but disappointed he wasn't terminated. He should face criminal charges."

Despite the disturbing revelations, Morris may evade justice. Texas law states there is no statute of limitations for continuous sexual abuse of a young child. However, as of now, no criminal charges have been filed against Morris.
