West Des Moines, Iowa - In a catastrophic wreck, a day care van collided head-on with a semi-truck, injuring nearly a dozen people, West Des Moines Police Department reports critical incidents, sending shockwaves through the community.

Van Loses Control, Collides with Semi

"The day care van, heading north on South 88th Street, crossed into the southbound lane and struck the semi head-on," recounts Police Sgt. Adam Porath to USA TODAY. "There were 10 children and an adult in the van, and the semi had two male adults. Incredibly, paramedics confirmed all injuries as non-life-threatening."

Aftermath & Investigation

The incident, which occurred around 2 p.m. near EP True Parkway, resulted in multiple police and fire agencies offering medical assistance and addressing a diesel spill from the semi. Officials have not disclosed the daycare involved nor released details about the drivers, with the investigation ongoing and charges yet to be determined.
