Community Gathers to Mourn Lyndsey Vicknair, One of Two Victims in Juneteenth Shooting

Over 100 people gathered on Thursday to honor the life of 33-year-old Lyndsey Vicknair, a lawyer and mother of three, who was tragically killed in a shooting at a Juneteenth celebration in Round Rock, Texas. Candles lit up the night at Webb Middle School's track, where Vicknair and her family were beloved members of the Austin HoneyBadgers Track Club.

"She was a light. She was a helper and she had a love for young people."

Vicknair, along with 54-year-old Ara Duke, lost their lives in the senseless act of violence that erupted from an altercation between two groups. Police have arrested 17-year-old Ricky Thompson III, but continue to search for other suspects as Thompson was not the sole shooter.

Friends and members of the track club shared fond memories of Vicknair, describing her as kind-hearted, caring, and a dedicated mother. She embraced her community, learning Spanish with her children and embracing a vegetarian lifestyle for their health. Her generosity and spirit touched many lives, and her loss is deeply felt.

The Austin HoneyBadgers Track Club has set up a GoFundMe page to support the Vicknair family: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-for-vicknair-family-in-tragic-times?attribution_id=sl:98074995-f0bf-46f3-bc8b-3cfd78a19652&utm_campaign=man_sharesheet_ft&utm_medium=customer&utm_source=copy_link

As the community grieves, Candice Cooper leaves a poignant reminder:

"My message from this tragedy is to try to find a way to triumph... Life is short and we must appreciate it. You never know when you are going to see somebody next. You may not see them again."
