The Senate edge closer to requiring women to register for the draft, but the bill must still jump through many political hoops before it becomes a law.

New Demographic Required to Register for Selective Service?

A Facebook post claims that due to an alleged "idiotic DEI and anti-white policies," the US military is forcing women to register for the draft. The claim also appeared on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter).

The Facts
While it is true that the Senate Committee on Armed Services recently advanced the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025, which includes a provision to require women to register for the Selective Service, this is not the first time such a proposal has been made, and previous attempts failed in Congress.

The bill in question is still far from becoming law. After approval by the committee, it must now pass through the Senate and the House, and then be signed by the President.

Furthermore, the US hasn't held a draft in over 50 years, with the last draft taking place in 1973 during the Vietnam War.

The Conclusion
The claim that the US military is requiring women to register for the draft due to shortfalls in recruitment is false. While a Senate committee approved a bill proposing this change, it is far from becoming law, and the US hasn't conducted a draft in decades.
