Texas Official Has Ten Commandments Envy as Louisiana Displays them in Schools

Texas would have been and should have been the first state in the nation to put the 10 Commandments back in our schools. - Dan Patrick

Louisiana's governor signed a law to display the Ten Commandments in schools, leaving Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick envious. Texas Republicans passed a similar bill, stalled in the House. Backers of these bills want a legal battle, with La. Gov. Landry saying, "I can't wait to be sued" ^1. Civil liberties groups promptly sued ^2, with the case likely heading to the Supreme Court.

Texas already has a 6ft granite Ten Commandments slab at its Capitol. The Ten Commandments:

1. I am the Lord thy God. Thou shalt have no other gods before me...
2. Thou shalt not make... any graven images... Yet Texans idolize guns as divine right. ^3
3. Thou shalt not take the Lord's name in vain... Don't tout Christian values for political gain & dismiss care for the poor.
4. Remember the Sabbath... to keep it holy... Yet Texas is ranked among the worst for environmental quality. ^4
5. Honor thy father and mother... GOP fails new parents with lack of child care & support for pregnancy loss.
6. Thou shalt not kill... Texas leads in the death penalty.
7. Thou shalt not commit adultery... AG Ken Paxton's impeachment trial Punchline: "If we impeached everyone in Austin who'd had an affair..."
8. Thou shalt not steal... But Redistricting steals voter power.
9. Thou shalt not bear false witness... GOP lies about migrants, calling them an "invasion".
10. Thou shalt not covet... Texas lawmakers covet local policy power.

Despite the display at its Capitol, Texas lawmakers ignore its lessons. Patrick vows to push this religious agenda further.
