Person of Interest in Custody for Fatal Shooting of Retired Chicago Police Officer: CPD

A person of interest is in custody in connection with the death of retired Chicago police officer Larry Neuman, who was fatally shot Thursday morning, police said Monday.

Chicago police spokesperson: "There is a person of interest in custody, and the investigation remains ongoing."

Neuman, 73, was fatally shot outside his residence Thursday

Neuman, an explosives technician who served nearly 30 years with the department, was shot and killed around 11:30 a.m. Thursday outside his residence in West Garfield Park, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Footage shows suspects linked to Neuman's killing

The Chicago Police Department released a video showing two individuals dressed in black hoodies walking down an alleyway, who may be linked to Neuman's death. The suspects are believed to be between 16 and 21 years old.

Community honors fallen officer: 'A pillar of the community'

Community members held a march on Sunday to honor Neuman, who was a beloved figure in the city. He was the longest-serving bomb technician and had also served as an ordained preacher at a local church. He was also a veteran of the Vietnam War.

"Larry Neuman was a pillar of the community who dedicated his entire life to protecting and supporting others," the Chicago Police said in a statement.

"He was everything to everybody in this community. He was the father figure to kids whose fathers weren't in their lives," a friend of Neuman's, Shonda Johnson, told ABC7.
