Teen Arrested in Connection with Juneteenth Celebration Shooting, Police Say

A teenager is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after admitting to firing his gun during the incident, according to an arrest affidavit.

Round Rock, Texas - A teenager has been arrested in connection with the mass shooting at the Juneteenth celebration in Round Rock, Texas, which left two people dead and 14 injured. In a statement, police revealed that 17-year-old Ricky Thompson III of Manor has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

According to the arrest affidavit, Thompson admitted to pulling out a 9 mm gun from his waistband during an altercation and firing three shots, one of which struck a 17-year-old male victim in the leg. The argument, the specifics of which have not been disclosed by authorities, also involved multiple other individuals.

An officer providing security at the event learned that the victim had been transported to St. David's Hospital for treatment for a gunshot wound.

"Part of the argument was between Thompson and a 17-year-old male, according to the affidavit. It said Thompson pulled out his gun and shot at the victim, striking him in the leg."

Police have also arrested a second suspect, a juvenile, who was taken to the Williamson County Juvenile Justice Center.

The shooting, which occurred on June 15 at Old Settlers Park, resulted in the deaths of two innocent bystanders: 54-year-old Ara Dukes and 33-year-old Lyndsey Vicknair. Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks confirmed that there was more than one shooter, and the investigation remains ongoing.
