Ford Recalls Over 550,000 Pickups for Dangerous Downshifting Issue

Ford is recalling 552,188 F-150 trucks due to a transmission issue that can cause sudden downshifting to first gear, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

"Unexpected downshifting may cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle and increase the risk of a crash"
- NHTSA

The issue is caused by a loss of signal between the transmission output shaft speed sensor and the powertrain control module, resulting in downshifting at any vehicle speed. There are also issues with connector pin corrosion.

Dealers were notified on June 17, and Ford will mail notifications to owners starting July 1.
