Baby Killer Charged: No Bond for Nicole Virzi, Charged with Homicide, Aggravated Assault, and Child Endangerment

Allegheny County, PA - Nicole Elizabeth Virzi, 29, of Southern California, has been charged with homicide and multiple counts of assault and child endangerment in the death of a 6-week-old baby, [Leon Katz], and the injury of his twin brother, [Ari Katz], in Shadyside, PA. Virzi, a Ph.D. student in clinical psychology, was a guest of the children's parents, [Savannah Roberts and Ethan Katz], at their home when the incidents occurred.

  • Virzi called 911 on June 15, reporting Leon had fallen from his bassinet and was unresponsive. He later died from blunt force trauma to the head, ruled as homicide by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner.
  • Prior to Leon's injury, Virzi alerted his parents to injuries on Ari's genitals, leading them to take him to the hospital. While they were gone, Leon was left in her care.
  • An online fundraiser for the family, organized by [Isabella Kahhalé and Sam Plateto], has raised over $66,000 as of Tuesday.
  • Virzi was denied bond and is due in court for a preliminary hearing on July 24.
