House Collapses Into Minnesota's Blue Earth River Due To Flooding

Much of a southern Minnesota house has collapsed into the Blue Earth River due to flooding caused by severe storms that have battered the region in recent days.

A house in Blue Earth County, Minnesota, partially collapsed into the raging waters on Tuesday night, as per a Facebook post by local authorities. The Rapidan Dam, located nearby, is in a critical state after record-breaking floods hit the North and Central Plains regions over the weekend.

Dam In "Imminent Failure Condition"

County officials declared:

"[There were] dramatic changes overnight... a wider and deeper channel has formed and is surging around the west abutment, which is now partially failed."

The main flow of water is now bypassing the dam, with little to no flow through its gates, highlighting the severe erosion and the critical state of the structure.

Flooding Threats Persist

  • The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for multiple rivers in Minnesota, including the Minnesota and Mississippi rivers, and for the Wisconsin River to the east.

  • Thunderstorms are expected on Thursday and Friday, which could exacerbate flooding conditions.

  • In Iowa, flooding has shut down part of Interstate 29, and AccuWeather predicts water levels could rise higher than projected:

"Minor flooding may escalate to moderate flooding in some areas, while moderate flooding may increase to major flooding."

The story was shared by Mike Snider via Twitter and Threads.
