Austin Breaks Ground on Pedestrian Bridge Over Lady Bird Lake
The city of Austin will begin construction on a half-mile pedestrian bridge over Lady Bird Lake in East Austin on July 1.
The bridge will connect Longhorn Shores, Canterbury Park, and a peninsula near Holly Street, forming a 76-ft wide plaza over the lake with bike racks, benches, and trees - City of Austin Capital Delivery Services
The plaza will also link to the [Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail](https://www.austintexas.gov/page/roy- butler-trail), creating a wishbone shape parallel to Longhorn Dam.
Construction:
- July 1: Longhorn Shores closes, along with the tunnel from Krieg Fields under Pleasant Valley Road. Fencing goes up around Krieg Fields, but the complex remains open.
- July 8: Canterbury Street closes to eastbound traffic; Canterbury Park and its parking lot are inaccessible. Peninsula near Holly Street also closes.
- July 15: The Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail detours north along Pleasant Valley Road, west on Canterbury, and south on Pedernales and Holly Streets.
- This detour will last approximately 18 months, depending on weather conditions.
