Woman Arrested After Crash Reveals Corpse in Car

A 32-year-old woman, Margot Lewis, was arrested in Minnesota after a crash led to the discovery of a dead body in her car.

Time and Place

  • When: Saturday, around 7 a.m.
  • Where: Interstate 90 in Olmsted County, southeast Minnesota.

Per the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office (FB post), Lewis' Chevrolet Sonic hit the guard rails and crashed. A passerby helped her out of the car.

Discovery of the Body

As police inspected the vehicle, they found the body of a 35-year-old woman, Liara Tsai, in the back seat. She was "wrapped in a bedsheet, a blanket, a futon-style mattress, and a tarp," with a large wound on her neck and dried bloodstains.

Sheriff's Statement:

"The condition of the deceased was suspicious, and it was immediately apparent that the death was not a result of the motor vehicle accident."

Autopsy Results: The Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the initial cause of death as "multiple sharp force injuries."

Search of Residence: Multiple agencies, including the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, searched Tsai's residence in Minneapolis, finding "a scene indicating violence."

Accused: Lewis was arrested on suspicion of interference with a dead body or scene of death, detained at the Adult Detention Center, and is scheduled to appear in court again on July 5.
