Wild Thang, the 2024 World's Ugliest Dog, is rising to stardom after his recent win. The 8-year-old Pekingese from North Bend, Oregon, took home the trophy on June 21 at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, CA.

The competition, held about 38 miles north of San Francisco, tested canines on their extracurricular activities and unique appearances. Wild Thang, a persistent competitor, participated five times before winning over the judges and voters.

MUG Root Beer, a first-time sponsor, offered a $10,000 cash prize pool. With his win, Wild Thang also secures a feature on a limited-edition MUG Root Beer can.

About Wild Thang

Wild Thang, now retired in Oregon, had a tough start in life. He contracted distemper as a puppy, which permanently damaged his teeth and caused his right leg to paddle constantly. But he survived, and he thrives today as a healthy and happy dog. He uses his Instagram platform to advocate for pet vaccination and to raise funds for Pekingese dogs in Ukraine. So far, seven dogs have been rescued and adopted into loving homes in North America.

Limited-Edition MUG Root Beer Can

As the competition winner, Wild Thang's face will grace 1,000 MUG Root Beer cans. Fans can try their luck at winning a limited-edition can through the company's social media accounts @mugrootbeer. The cans are expected to be available in mid-July.
