Bee Cave delays raise in gas rates

Bee Cave City Council votes to delay proposed gas rate hikes for 90 days.

The Bee Cave City Council unanimously passed a resolution to temporarily halt a proposed gas rate hike for 90 days. Texas Gas Service, which provides gas to Bee Cave, applied to the Texas Railroad Commission for a rate increase to address a claimed $25.8 million revenue loss in 2023.

Bee Cave, as its regulatory authority, has jurisdiction over the rates charged by the company. Attorney Thomas Brocato advised the council of its legal right to delay, saying,

If the case ultimately settles, we’ll be back asking you to approve that settlement. If we’re not able to reach a settlement, then we’ll come back and ask you to take final action before the end of the time period for city review.

Texas Gas Service is seeking to increase residential rates from $22.85 to $25.49 and commercial rates from $83.92 to $96.18, with potential for future increases.
