Allegiant Air pulls Austin base but maintains airport service.

Allegiant Air is closing its crew base at Austin's airport, leaving over one hundred pilots and flight attendants without jobs. The last day of operation is set for May 19.

Allegiant Airlines to Cut Crew Base at Austin Airport, Cites South Terminal Closure

  • Allegiant Airlines announced it will eliminate its crew base at Austin-Bergstrom Intl. Airport in 2024 due to the upcoming South Terminal closure.
  • The airline emphasized it's not leaving Austin, but didn't provide details on the impact of the base closure, indicating nearby bases will still serve Austin.

Austin-Bergstrom Breaks Passenger Records in 2023:

  • Austin-Bergstrom saw 22M+ passengers in 2023, a record-high, with Southwest Airlines leading at 8.5M.
  • Allegiant ranked 7th with 377K, ahead of JetBlue & British Airways.

Airport Expansion Plans:

  • Austin-Bergstrom plans a new concourse with 20 gates by 2030 & a new utility plant to accommodate growth & reduce carbon footprint.
  • The Austin City Council approved initial steps, with further votes expected for a $162M construction contract, city-funded.
