Connie, the Container Dog, Has Died

A dog rescued by the Coast Guard from a shipping container in January has died, a local animal rescue reports.

Connie, nicknamed "Connie the Container Dog," was found trapped in a shipping container at Port Houston, pregnant and without food or water, for at least eight days.

After all she had been through and survived, we simply couldn’t believe that this was how her story was supposed to end. She was such a young dog, with the absolute sweetest spirit, and yet she was such a fighter, a true survivor. - Forever Changed Animal Rescue

Since her rescue, Connie gave birth to eight puppies and was adopted, but unfortunately, her health took a turn for the worse. She was diagnosed with pythiosis, an aggressive fungal infection, which affects the gastrointestinal tract and skin. Despite treatment, including advanced imaging, diagnostics, and blood transfusions, Connie's condition rapidly deteriorated, and she passed away.

Connie's story of resilience and the dedication of her rescuers inspired many, and her legacy will live on through her puppies and the lives she touched.
