Florida Man Shoots Down Walmart Delivery Drone, Faces Multiple Charges

A Florida man was arrested and charged after shooting at a Walmart delivery drone, piercing its payload.

Clermont, Florida - The Lake County Sheriff's Office received an unusual complaint on Wednesday, which was detailed in a Facebook post: a witness reported seeing a bullet hole in the cargo held by a Walmart delivery drone.

Witnesses directed authorities to 72-year-old Dennis Winn, who, in an official interview, admitted to shooting at the drone with a 9mm pistol. Winn claimed the drone wouldn't leave, so he "fired one round at it."

"I fired one round at it," he said. "They say I hit it so I must be a good shot, or else it's not that far away... I'm going to wind up having to find a real good defense lawyer."

Winn now faces serious charges: shooting at an aircraft, criminal mischief damage over $1,000, and discharging a firearm in public or residential property.

Walmart, which first launched its drone delivery service in 2021, has expanded the service to Texas, Arizona, and Florida, partnering with drone delivery companies like DroneUp, Wing, and Zipline. The company boasts over 20,000 successful deliveries, with plans to expand to 1.8 million additional homes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
