Annette Addo-Yobo Crowned Miss Texas 2024

Richardson, Texas — Over the weekend, Annette Addo-Yobo was crowned Miss Texas 2024, making history as the first immigrant-born and first Ghanaian to hold the title.

I am humbled, honored, and grateful to be the 87th Miss Texas and hope to continue making history with the Texas community.

Addo-Yobo, who competed as Miss Southlake, is a University of Texas at Dallas graduate with a bachelor's in psychology. Born in Ghana and raised in Canada and the U.S., she only received U.S. citizenship in 2022.

A Pageant with a Purpose

The new Miss Texas has used the pageant as a platform to raise awareness for autism. Her brother, Andrew, was diagnosed with autism at age four, and Addo-Yobo has witnessed the structural inequities and lack of education surrounding the neurodivergent community. Through her platform, The SPARK Project, she aims to bring autism safety, awareness, and education to the forefront.

It is my mission to amplify the voices of the autistic community and ensure that legislators, decision-makers, and community members see us and fight for us.
