Man Shot Near Washington Square Park Hours After Fights Broke Out

A 20-year-old man is recovering after being shot near Washington Square Park, NYC.

NYC, United States - A 20-year-old man is in a stable condition after being shot in the buttocks and right hand near Washington Square Park, the NYPD confirmed. The shooting occurred around 2 a.m. on Monday, hours after the park was closed due to multiple fights breaking out.

Local outlets and social media reports indicate that people had gathered in the park for Pride celebrations, but the NYPD stated there was no official Pride event happening when the fights occurred, resulting in 22 arrests.

The NYPD shut down the park at 4 p.m. on Sunday due to the fights, and it is not yet confirmed if the shooting was related.
