UT Austin's SEC Celebration Ends in Injury

One injured, two treated for medical issues during festivities

[Austin-Travis County EMS] (https://x.com/ATCEMS/status/1807711609134911494) reports that one person was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries following a "crowd surge/crush" at the University of Texas' SEC celebration. Two others treated for unrelated medical issues.

The incident occurred between 9:12 and 10:38 p.m., as a crowd rushed towards the UT Tower for a free [Pitbull] (https://news.utexas.edu/2024/05/29/ut-and-texas-athletics-to-host-all-day-sec-celebration-on-june-30/) performance, part of an all-day event pitched by UT President Jay Hartzell as a "Texas-sized party" to commemorate UT's entry into the [Southeastern Conference] (https://news.utexas.edu/2024/05/29/ut-and-texas-athletics-to-host-all-day-sec-celebration-on-june-30/).

Video footage on social media captures the surge, with a crowd rushing from Littlefield Fountain towards the tower. Over 3,000 attended, according to Statesman reporters.
