AccuWeather Calls Out X For Undermining Hurricane Beryl Forecast

AccuWeather calls out X (formerly Twitter) for undermining its Hurricane Beryl forecast with a community note, claiming official hurricane forecasts can only come from the National Hurricane Center. AccuWeather CEO Steven R. Smith says the note created doubt and that their forecast was in the interest of public safety:

"We issued that forecast because when we know something, it is our philosophy to tell people because it's in the interest of public safety...They just got it wrong. It's just flat out wrong."

AccuWeather's tweet explains their science-based predictions, offering potentially life-saving info. Their Thursday forecast gave a 24-30 hour early warning, with Chief Meteorologist Jon Porter stressing the extra time can be life-saving:

"We don't make those forecasts lightly. It's a very deliberate forecast...to provide people and businesses with extra advanced notice, which we believe was life-saving."

Hurricane Beryl, now a Category 4, is heading towards Jamaica & Mexico, with dangerous impacts expected. Path tracker here.
