Hurricane Beryl Intensifies to Category 5, Threatens Caribbean with Life-Threatening Winds and Storm Surge

"Hurricane Beryl jumped from a Category 4 to a Category 5 hurricane Monday night with winds of 160 mph."

Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Grenada on Monday, and is now threatening Jamaica and the Caribbean with life-threatening winds and a dangerous storm surge, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

On Monday, Beryl tore through the Windward Islands, making landfall on Grenada’s Carriacou Island as a Category 4 hurricane, with winds of 150 mph. The storm is expected to remain powerful as it moves across the Caribbean Sea, with Belize, the Yucatan Peninsula, Cuba, and the southwestern Gulf of Mexico potentially in its path.

The NHC urged residents in the path of the storm to remain vigilant and keep updated with the latest forecasts and warnings.
