Buc-ee's Original Location Catches Fire During Demolition

The original Buc-ee's in Luling, Texas, caught fire during its demolition on Monday. Rumors sparked as the new "world's largest" Buc-ee's is located nearby and had opened just three weeks prior.

Cause of Fire Unknown

"They were in the process of demolition and using the excavators when something started the fire," said Luling Deputy Fire Chief Keith Lohse. "There was no power or gas hooked up to the building. All utilities were off at the time. We don’t know what happened, but it appears they may have struck something and it ignited." - Gonzales Inquirer

The new location suffered no damage according to the Caldwell County Office of Emergency Management.

Growth of a Texas Icon

The original Buc-ee's opened in 2003, and the brand has since expanded to 49 locations across nine states, with 35 in Texas alone. The new Luling location is being touted as the world's largest convenience store, and Buc-ee's also claims the title of the world's longest car wash at 255 feet in Katy, near Houston.
