Starting July 9, McDonald's is serving up a side of anime with its nuggets. The fast-food chain has teamed up with the popular anime series "Jujutsu Kaisen" to offer a new garlic sauce, inspired by the anime's "special grade curses."
"The condiment...features notes of garlic and soy sauce, balanced with a slight tangy sweetness."
Per the press release, the sauce packaging features eight unique designs with beloved characters from the show, including Yuji Itadori, Satoru Gojo, Nobara Kugisaki, and Kento Nanami.
The garlic sauce is available exclusively via the McDonald's App, and it's free with any Chicken McNuggets purchase. On top of that, customers will also receive a 30-day free trial of Crunchyroll, a leading anime streaming service.
For the uninitiated, "Jujutsu Kaisen" is an anime adaption of a manga series that soared in popularity upon its debut in 2020. The series follows young jujutsu sorcerers battling evil spirits known as "curses." It has since become a pop culture phenomenon, with references in music by artists like Megan Thee Stallion and even a TikTok cosplay video by Usher. A fan-made petition for Usher to perform "Daddy's Home" at the Super Bowl in tribute to Satoru Gojo garnered nearly 38,000 signatures.
