A suspect is in custody after a mother and her 3-year-old daughter were victimized during a carjacking in Oakland Park last week.

Willio Petioma, 35, is facing charges of kidnapping, carjacking, interfering with the custody of a minor, and illegal use of a credit card.

According to investigators, at approximately 8:30 a.m. on June 26, the mother and child were involved in a minor crash in the 300 block of West Oakland Park Boulevard. As the mother exchanged information with the other driver, Petioma jumped into their car and drove off - unaware that the toddler was still in the back seat.

The mother tried to stop him, but she was dragged alongside the car and eventually fell to the ground, injuring herself.

Surveillance video shows the suspect abandoning the child on the sidewalk, still strapped in her car seat, moments after carjacking the vehicle.

The suspect then ditched the car and used the victim's credit card at a Family Dollar store.

Petioma was arrested on Sunday thanks to an anonymous tip and now faces additional charges in Palm Beach County for possession of cocaine and resisting an officer.
