Viva Raw cat/dog food recalled over listeria fears

FDA: Avoid Viva Raw products from Lot 21244 due to potential listeria contamination.

A #NorthCarolina company, Viva Raw LLC, is recalling certain #raw #petfood products due to potential #listeria #contamination. The recall includes five products made for dogs and cats:

Viva Turkey for Dogs Ground
Viva Turkey for Dogs Chunked
Viva Turkey for Cats
Viva Pure Turkey
Viva Beef & Turkey for Puppies

These products were shipped nationwide in frozen 1-pound bricks, and all are part of Lot 21244.

"[Listeria monocytogenes] can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in pets who eat contaminated products," the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said in a statement. "There is a risk to humans ... who handle contaminated pet products."

No illnesses related to this recall have been reported as of Monday.

Customers with the recalled products should:

"Dispose of the product in a way that children, pets, and wildlife cannot access it."
"Wash hands and sanitize countertops, utensils, and any other surfaces that may have touched the recalled product."
"Contact Viva Raw for further instructions to receive a refund."
