Americans are searching for recipes and varieties of dishes to grill for July 4th celebrations, with hot dogs and salads topping the list, as per Google Trends.

July 4th Rewired: Drones, Corn on the Cob, and Skorts?

More Americans are firing up the grills this 4th of July, with 56% planning to barbecue, according to Numerator. Grilling ranks second only to spending time with family and friends.

What's Sizzling on the Grill?

Meat takes a backseat this year, with corn on the cob being the top "how to grill" search. The full top 5:

  1. Corn on the cob
  2. Salmon
  3. Chicken breast
  4. Asparagus
  5. Burgers

Saucing it Up:

Tastes are evolving, with Japanese BBQ sauce topping the list of most-searched sauces, followed by Hawaiian, Korean, White, and Carolina styles.

Dog Gone It:

While beef and kosher remain popular, unique hot dogs are making a mark, including the Korean, Chicago, Coney Island, and Sonoran varieties. The Reindeer Hot Dog in Alaska, Dirty Water Dog in Hawaii, and Red Snapper in Maine are quirky regional twists.

Salads and Sides:

Pasta salad leads the way, with cucumber, chicken, and fruit salads also making the cut.

Cocktails:

The Bomb Pop takes the cake this year, along with Sangria and classic cocktails like the Aviation and Margarita.

Activities:

With scorching heat, "Water park" searches surge, along with traditional "Fireworks" and "Camping."

Fashion:

"Skort" wins the red, white, and blue fashion stakes, with T-shirts, hats, and summer dresses also making the list.
