No One Wants Meta AI: Here's How to Quit

Meta users are flooding forums with requests to disable AI features since their April rollout. Though there's no universal opt-out, you can silence specific functions and curtail unwanted defaults.

One feature, "comment summaries," auto-generates blurbs summarizing post comments, catching users' eye with AI-crafted "concise overviews."

Facebook's Help Center [https://www.facebook.com/help/1546353492610426/] mentions this feature is enabled for "some Page posts with numerous comments." The toggle is on by default, sparking privacy concerns. Users fear their online writings will fuel Meta AI, despite any personal opt-out preferences.

Steps to Disable Meta AI Comment Summaries on Facebook:

  1. Open Facebook, click the profile picture circle (top-right), then select "Settings & Privacy."

  2. Choose "Settings," then under "Settings & Privacy," Scroll to "Audience & Visibility."

  3. Select "Posts" under these settings.

  4. Toggle off "Show comment summaries on posts."

Disabling may not prevent your data from training Meta AI, but it stops inaccurate summaries from populating your feed.

To truly opt-out, quit Meta platforms.
