Hot dog champ Joey Chestnut barred, but undeterred: still devouring dogs for the love of the sport.

Banned from Nathan’s Famous Contest, Chestnut Competes for the Love of the Game

Joey Chestnut, barred from Nathan’s annual Hot Dog Eating Contest, still showed up to devour hot dogs.

Instead of competing at Coney Island, Chestnut headed to Fort Bliss Army base in El Paso, Texas, where he ate against four soldiers in an event raising money for military families.

Why the Ban?

Chestnut was banned due to his endorsement deal with Impossible Foods, a vegan brand. Nathan's views this as a conflict of interest.

The Champ's Performance

Chestnut consumed 57 hot dogs and buns in five minutes. His competitors managed a combined total of 49.

A Champion's Record

Chestnut holds the record for most hot dogs eaten: 76 dogs and buns in 10 minutes in 2021. He won his 16th Nathan's title in 2023, eating 62 hot dogs.

Pat Bertoletti, who devoured 58 hot dogs and buns.
