Austin Man Arrested for Stabbing Death of Father

The Austin Police Department [https://www.austintexas.gov/department/police] has identified Hayden Lerond, 22, as the suspect in the fatal stabbing of his father, James Lerond, 51.

"Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services arrived and found a victim... lying in the street and began life-saving measures."

At approximately 5:39 p.m. on Monday evening, officers responded to multiple emergency calls reporting a stabbing at 6715 Windrift Way, Cannon Ridge Homes, with one caller stating that someone was bleeding.

When Emergency Services arrived, they located James Lerond, who was lying in the street with stab wounds. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at 6:05 p.m.

A subsequent search of the residence by officers led them to Hayden Lerond, who was found with blood on his knees and minor injuries. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The investigation by homicide detectives revealed that Hayden had inflicted the fatal stab wounds on his father. He has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held on a $200,000 bond in Travis County Jail.

This tragic incident marks Austin's 30th homicide of 2024.
