Hurricane Beryl Strengthens, Takes Aim at South Texas
As of Friday, Hurricane Beryl is strengthening and expected to make landfall in Mexico before turning toward South Texas, impacting much of the state with strong winds and heavy rainfall.
The storm is entering the Gulf of Mexico and will likely intensify as it heads toward northern Mexico and the southern tip of Texas. AccuWeather forecasters predict it may run parallel to the coast before making its third landfall.
Expected Rainfall by Region:
- Brownsville/Rio Grande Valley: 4-8 inches. Highest impact with wind gusts up to 30 mph Friday, and heat indices near 110℉. Rip current risk increases Saturday.
- Austin/San Antonio: Multiple inches. NWS predicts heavy rainfall as the main threat, with relief for drought-stricken counties.
- Dallas/Fort Worth: 1-3 inches through Thursday night, per NWS.
- Houston/Galveston: Marginal risk of excessive rainfall, with a slight cooldown to the 90s. Heat advisories may continue due to humidity.
