Two Murder Suspects Escape from Mississippi Detention Center

Claiborne County, MississippiClaiborne County Sheriff Department issued a Facebook statementearly morning on July 5, announcing the escape of two inmates, Tyrekennel Collins (24) and Dezarrious Johnson (18). The escape occurred around 2:20 a.m., and the public is warned to be cautious as the suspects are considered dangerous.

Collins, described as a black man, was being held for Copiah County authorities on murder charges. Johnson, a Natchez area resident with a noticeable limp on his right leg sustained during the escape, was also held on murder charges for Jefferson County.

Surveillance footage captured Collins and Johnson escaping through the ceiling. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Claiborne County Sheriff Department at (601) 437-5161.

Update, October 17, 2023: Tyrekennel Collins has been arrested for the alleged murder of his cousin in Georgetown, Mississippi. Dezarrious Johnson is indicted on charges of murder and aggravated assault for a killing in October 2022. Johnson's trial is set to begin on October 15.
