Hurricane Beryl Intensifies, Targets Texas Coast After Ravaging Southern Caribbean

Days after its second landfall, Beryl is strengthening, expected to hit Texas as a Category 1 or 2 hurricane.

A Historic Storm:

  • Made landfall in Grenada as a Cat 4, killing 6+
  • Record-early Cat 5, fueled by high ocean temps
  • First June major hurricane east of Lesser Antilles

Texas' Threat:

  • Cat 1/2 expected Monday, Texas mid-coast
  • Tropical-storm-force winds by Sunday
  • Widespread heavy rain, life-threatening surf

  • Hurricane watch: Texas/Mexico coast, mouth of Rio Grande to San Luis Pass
  • Storm surge watch: Texas coast, Rio Grande to High Island
