Conservative Activist Makes False Claim About Afghanistan Casualties

Claim: "For 18 months under President Trump, not a single American was harmed in Afghanistan."

Rating: False

A social media post by conservative activist Brigitte Gabriel echoing a previous claim by Trump contains misleading information. While it is true that no U.S. service members were killed in action in Afghanistan for an 18-month period, this included 7 months of Biden's presidency. From March 2020 to January 2021, four service members died in non-hostile incidents, and three were wounded in combat under Trump.

The full quote comes from a story told by U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt about Trump negotiating with Taliban leaders, threatening to kill them if Americans were harmed. Trump and the Taliban reached a deal to end the war on February 29, 2020.
