Child Dies After July Fourth Shooting; Police Offer Reward for Information


Temple Hills, Maryland — A 6-year-old child, Ahsan Payton, has died after being shot during a July Fourth gathering in Temple Hills, an unincorporated community in Prince George's County, Maryland, according to the Prince George County Police Department.

"Officers responded to a report of a shooting about 7:50 p.m. and reported they found Payton suffering from a gunshot wound."

Two adults were also injured in the shooting, which occurred on Thursday night. An unidentified man suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while an unidentified woman was treated for a gunshot graze wound.

As of Monday, no arrests have been made, and the Homicide Unit detectives are still investigating the motive. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Prince George County police, and a reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment.
