Authorities Investigate Heat-Related Death

  • A motorcyclist has died of heat exposure in Death Valley NP, as temps broke records, reaching 128°F.
  • The rider was part of a group of 6; another was hospitalized for severe heat illness, and 4 were treated and released.

Death Valley Shatters Records

  • Saturday's temp broke the official daily record of 127°F set in 2007.
  • Emergency med helicopters were unable to respond due to extreme heat, per NPS:

"Helicopters... cannot generally fly safely over 120 degrees."

Park Officials Warn of Heat Dangers

“High heat like this can pose real threats to your health,” said Superintendent Mike Reynolds. Visitors urged to avoid prolonged outdoor activity, especially hiking, in extreme heat.

Tips to avoid heat exposure:

  • Stay out of sun, seek A/C
  • Wear loose, light clothing, sunscreen & hat
  • Stay hydrated, eat salty snacks
