Hurricane Beryl Cuts Power to 1 Million in Texas, Prompts Road Closures & Flood Warnings

More than 1 million customers lost power as Hurricane Beryl hit the Texas coast, with rising waters causing street closures in Houston and flood warnings along the coast.

CenterPoint Energy in Houston reported the power outage:

Texas Weather: Driving Safety Tips

As Texans brace for the impact of Beryl, the Texas Department of Insurance has issued the following driving safety tips:

  • Avoid puddles and low-lying areas to prevent hydroplaning.
  • Drive in the middle lanes to avoid pooled water on outer edges.
  • Keep headlights on for enhanced visibility.
  • Use turn signals early to alert other drivers.
  • Brake safely - remove foot from accelerator and apply brakes lightly.
