Walmart customers to unite in class action lawsuit

A federal appeals court has ruled that Walmart must face a class-action lawsuit claiming the retail giant used inaccurate price labels, violating consumer protection laws.

"Who does that? For obvious reasons consumers will not undertake such audits," wrote Judge David Hamilton in his ruling, referring to the unreasonable expectation that consumers keep track of price discrepancies.

The lawsuit was filed by an Ohio resident, Yoram Kahn, who found a 10-15% markup above the listed price at an Illinois store. Similar price discrepancies were found at Walmart locations in multiple states.

The lawsuit also notes that Walmart has previously been fined for pricing errors and violations, including a $2 million fine in California in 2012 and a $1.64 million settlement in New Jersey in 2024.

Walmart has announced it is testing digital shelf labels to update prices remotely, a move their spokesperson says will "give us more time to support customers in the store."
