July 8, 2024: Beryl slams into Texas coast pre-dawn, making landfall near Matagoda. Hurricane status confirmed. Austin braces for impact as storm rages 200 miles away.

National Hurricane Center reports:
- Beryl made landfall x3 since its birth, most recently as a Category 1 hurricane near Matagorda, Texas at 4:30 a.m. on July 8.
- Max. sustained winds near 80 mph.
- Expected to weaken to a tropical storm on July 8 and further to a tropical depression on July 9.
Hurricane Beryl Disaster Declaration includes Travis County (Austin) and 80 other counties, warning of potential flooding.
For context:
- Matagorda, TX is ~200 miles from Austin, on the Gulf Coast.
- Beryl formed from Invest 95L on June 28, strengthened to a hurricane on June 29, and hit Grenada as a Cat 4 on July 1.
- By July 2, it was a Cat 5, then weakened to a tropical storm by July 5, making landfall in Mexico as a Cat 2.
- On July 6, it was projected to become a hurricane again, making its 3rd landfall.
