Gov. Abbott Calls for Investigation into Texas Power Outages

Gov. Greg Abbott has called for an immediate investigation into the power outages that left 2 million Texans in the dark after Hurricane Beryl, demanding answers from electricity transmission company CenterPoint Energy:

"What I'm going to be doing immediately is instructing the Public Utility Commission to undertake an immediate study to find out why this is repeatedly happening in Houston, Texas. They should not be losing power." - Gov. Abbott, Bloomberg TV interview

CenterPoint Energy executive Jason Ryan faced questioning from the Public Utility Commission, expressing empathy for those affected:

"We know we have a lot of work to do. We will not stop the work until it is done... our hearts go out to our community." - Jason Ryan, CenterPoint Energy executive

Gov. Abbott, currently on a trade mission in Asia, has instructed the PUC to forward their findings to the Legislature, seeking remedies by the 2025 session. Abbott raised concerns about potential structural flaws or personnel shortages, demanding clarity on the issue. Ryan defended CenterPoint's storm preparation, highlighting their early planning and mobilization of a 12,000-strong workforce.

Texans deserve answers and action. The investigation is a step toward preventing future outages.
