Texas-born actress Shelley Duvall died on Thursday at her home in Blanco, Texas. She was 75. Duvall's partner, Dan Gilroy, confirmed her passing to The Hollywood Reporter [https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/film/shelley-duvall-dead-shine-actress-was-75-1381983], stating that she died in her sleep from complications related to diabetes.

"My dear, sweet, wonderful life partner and friend left us," Gilroy said. "Too much suffering lately, now she’s free. Fly away, beautiful Shelley."

Duvall was born in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1949 and grew up in various cities across the state. She began her acting career in 1970 with a role in Robert Altman's "Brewster McCloud," which was shot in Houston. She went on to appear in several of Altman's films, including "McCabe & Mrs. Miller" (1971), "Thieves Like Us" (1974), and "Nashville" (1975). Duvall also received critical acclaim for her performance in Altman's "3 Women" (1977), winning the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival that year.

However, Duvall is likely best remembered for her terrifying turn as Wendy Torrance in Stanley Kubrick's horror masterpiece, "The Shining" (1980). She also produced children's TV series, "Faerie Tale Theatre" (1982-1987) and "Shelley Duvall's Bedtime Stories" (1992).

After the 1994 Northridge earthquake, Duvall left Los Angeles and returned to her home state, settling in the small town of Blanco, Texas.
