Byron Donalds Claims Kamala Harris "co-sponsored, fully sponsored" the Green New Deal. Politifact rates this claim as True.

The Claim:

Kamala Harris "co-sponsored, fully sponsored" the Green New Deal.

The Truth:
During a recent interview, Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., stated that Vice President Kamala Harris had "co-sponsored, fully sponsored" the Green New Deal, a proposal introduced in Congress in 2019.

A review of public records confirms that Harris did indeed co-sponsor the Senate legislation for the Green New Deal and continues to support its principles. She was one of 11 Democratic co-sponsors of the resolution when it was introduced and expressed pride in her support for the deal at the time. In a Medium post from February 7, 2019, Harris wrote:

"For too long, we have been governed by lawmakers who are beholden to big oil and big coal. They have refused to act on climate change. So, it's on us to speak the truth, rooted in science fact, not science fiction...We do not fight this fight for our generation alone — but for generations to come. Thank you for taking direct action today."

Furthermore, during a CNN town hall in September 2019, Harris went even further, stating that she would support abolishing the filibuster to pass the Green New Deal.

While the Green New Deal faced opposition from Republicans and did not gain universal support among Democrats, it remained popular within the Democratic base. The White House also highlighted Harris' tangible contributions to economic policy, notably her tie-breaking vote to pass the Inflation Reduction Act, which included significant investments in curbing climate change.
